Had any good surprises lately?

This past Sunday,  Lisa Henderson and several volunteers began distributing copies of Maxie Dunnam’s Irresistible Invitation: Responding to the Extravagant Heart of God.  The book is a forty-day study that shows us how extravagant God’s love has been toward us, and how we can turn that into lives poured out for others.  It is hoped by now you’ve accepted the invitation and started digging in.

You could go about this study in several ways.  First, you could ignore it.  You could allow that book to gather dust on your bedside table and just pick up the main points from Wednesday nights and Sunday sermons.  Or just listen to the main points in Sunday school.

Second, you could read the entire week’s lessons in one sitting, maybe even on Saturday night or early Sunday morning.  That way, you figure, you can catch up and still know what everybody is talking about.

Or you could set aside a little bit of time each day, going over the daily readings and prayerfully considering the answers to the probing questions.  You could allow God to speak to both your heart and mind.  You could openly discuss what you’re learning on Wednesday nights or Sunday mornings and gain from the insights of others as you find yourself sharing in humility, as well.

You could look at this as simply one more thing to do in your already-busy schedule, or you could see it as the chance of a lifetime to press in and know God as you’ve never known him before.

Blessings,
David
